Following Ideas Student Symposium
Our high school students took part in the "Following Ideas Student Symposium" organised by Hisar Schools. We share the impressions from this day themed around women.
On 27 May 2019, a group of high school students from Bahçelievler Gökkuşağı Koleji, guided by their literature teachers, took part in the "Following Ideas Student Symposium" organised by Hisar Schools. Held this year around the theme of "women", the symposium gave students the chance to come together with peers from different schools and share their own views freely.
A Day in the Workshops
In workshops organised across different categories, students joined the novel workshop by reading Latife Tekin's novel Sevgili Arsız Ölüm, and the film workshop by watching the film Mona Lisa Smile. The symposium was highly productive in terms of bringing them together with peers and introducing them to different points of view. The students left the day-long program eager to attend again next year.
I saw that different ideas can look through the same window; sharing views as a group with people I did not know broadened my horizons.
The Students' Impressions
Zehra Özdemir said that debating social issues from different points of view at the symposium sharpened her own ideas and that this experience made her more aware. Ezgi Erden noted that this environment, where students freely expressed their own views, gave a great deal of self-confidence: "Everyone had different thoughts about a single book; this let us look at the same work through many interpretations."
Zeynep Boncukcuoğlu, who took part in a student symposium for the first time in her life, emphasised the value of freely exchanging ideas with peers, while Efe Burak Delier shared the positive effect that meeting students from different schools had on him.
