Three Books Middle School-Age Children Must Read

Reading in the middle school years feeds imagination and character. We gathered three books teachers also read in class: Momo, Son Ada’nın Çocukları and Yalnız Efe.

Middle school is one of the periods when a reading habit is most useful. Students who read at this age develop their imagination and mature their character; they become more successful in their lessons and individuals with strong expression skills. We have gathered three valuable books that teachers also read in class with complete peace of mind.

Momo

Written by Michael Ende, Momo tells the story of a little girl who lives in the ruins of an ancient theatre and is a very good listener. Against the Cloud Men who slyly steal people's time, Momo struggles together with Grandfather Time to reclaim the stolen hours. Giving fine counsel on healthy communication and the value of time, the book is often read in schools.

Son Ada’nın Çocukları

Written in Zülfü Livaneli's plain and fluent style, this book tells of 40 families living in peace and in harmony with nature on an island far from people, whose life changes with the arrival of a bully. Through the disruption of the island's ecological balance, it calls children to be sensitive towards nature and never to stray from friendship.

Yalnız Efe

One of Ömer Seyfettin's classic stories, Yalnız Efe tells how Kezban, seeking justice for her wronged father, flees oppression to the mountains and becomes the "Lone Efe" who protects the rights of the downtrodden. The book reminds both children and adults of the value of hard-earned labour and of not bowing to injustice.

Children grow up with books; a child who grows up with a love of books becomes a sensitive, curious individual with strong communication.
