What Is the IB Diploma Program?

The IBDP is an international program that gives students the skills of research, inquiry, critical thinking and risk-taking. Its curriculum is the same at every school that delivers IB education. As a result, a graduate of the program holds a diploma carrying the same high standard wherever they are in the world, and improves their chances of admission to distinguished universities.

Curriculum: Six Groups, Two Years

Over these two demanding years, students choose from six subject groups and take each subject at either higher level (HL) or standard level (SL):

Higher level subjects are taught 6 hours a week and standard level subjects 4 hours a week. Alongside these subjects, every student also completes three core components.

How Is the Diploma Earned?

A seven-point scale is used for each subject, and every subject is assessed through both examination and coursework. To earn the diploma, a student must reach a total of at least 24 points and successfully complete the TOK, extended essay and CAS components.
