Cinema holds all the branches of art within it; then it blends them with technical equipment and turns them into a difficult but enjoyable pursuit.
In the Young Director's Own Words
What drew you to this field?
I love being involved in art; I always spend my time with it. Cinema holds within it all the arts, such as acting, music, literature and sculpture; moreover, it blends them with technical equipment to produce a whole that is hard to work at but enjoyable.
What were the hardest points in the process?
The hardest point is the means. The saying "cut your coat according to your cloth" sums cinema up very well. Even if you have a wonderful project in your head, because the work comes down to the materials in your hands, cinema depends on technical solutions.
Was there a director who inspired you?
My favourite director might be Ben Affleck; the way he conveys a subject to the audience has always impressed me. But the person whose techniques I research most is Alfred Hitchcock. A genius who can make the audience feel exactly the emotion he wants. I prefer a narrative that does not shock, but keeps the viewer in suspense throughout the process.
What advice would you give to those starting out?
It helps to shoot small things and progress by grasping the logic. You must master the 24 frames per second and every point on the screen; the secret to this is also controlling what lies outside the frame. If a director leaves a point unknown, a mistake is inevitable.
