Apps That Develop Skills for Children

Rather than banning technology, it is possible to guide it well. We have compiled five educational apps that develop children’s skills, with a note on supervised use.

Technology keeps advancing, and children are growing up within it. Although its harms are debated, its benefits cannot be ignored. Rather than panicking and depriving children of technology entirely, it is far more useful to satisfy their curiosity, help them learn new things and guide them, in a supervised way, towards educational apps. We have compiled five apps that develop skills.

1. MentalUP

Ad-free and approved by educators, MentalUP offers educational brain games for children aged 4 to 13. The app develops attention, memory, visual, verbal and logic skills; by reporting the skills a child uses best, it reveals their hidden talents. With 150 educational games and 200 physical exercises, it creates personalised 20-minute daily programs.

2. ABC Wow!

Designed for children’s English development, ABC Wow! makes learning enjoyable with its fun graphics. By presenting words and their meanings visually, it improves retention.

3. Piano Tiles

Developing hand-eye coordination, rhythm and focus, Piano Tiles has the child press the keys in time with the music. The game speeds up steadily and demands high concentration; it can be useful for children who have difficulty focusing in their lessons.

4. Snail Bob

With the aim of getting Snail Bob across without letting him fall, this puzzle game leads children towards strategic thinking and finding solutions to obstacles. With its colourful graphics, it makes an enjoyable contribution to logical development.

5. TRT Çocuk Oyun Dünyası

Played with a range of characters, this game has children step into new adventures by completing tasks. With colouring, puzzle, sport, art and music games it is highly educational; because it is ad-free and free of charge, the games are never interrupted.

In brief

  • The right apps develop attention, language and logic skills.
  • Supervised and limited use is more beneficial than a ban.
  • When choosing an app, prefer ones that are ad-free and age appropriate.
